PVC cutter issue?

In 1999 I purchased a PVC cutter at a big box store. It is a small ratcheting type for up to maybe 1 1/2 inch, red with no name on it.

It has not had much use, I doubt if I have made 200 cuts with it over the years.

Today I noticed it does not cut square. The cut is straight, but not square. It is not off a lot but it is noticeable to the eye, on a 3/4" pipe it is off about 3/32" side to side.

Is this normal, am I doing something wrong, time for a new cutter? JIm

PVC cutter issue?

I've never used one of those things. The same tubing cutter used for copper pipe works just fine. If you have one of those, try it and see.

PVC cutter issue?

They do that after a while. I try to rotate mine halfway around the pipe while applying gentle pressure to score it before I go mashing the blade all the way through it. It helps a lot.

3/32 in the scope of a pvc joint isn't really horrible.

PVC cutter issue?

Thanks for the responses. I am not sure if it has always been like this and I did not notice or it happened over time.

Not sure of the slop tolerance in PVC I touched them up with a file. Will try the scoring next time. JIm
