pvc cement

after installing new pvc drain pipes how long do you have to wait before you can use them? I was under the impression it was about an hour for drain fittings but was told today to wait 24 hours. joe

Drain pipes should be good to go before you finish hooking them to the fixture/appliance. I repaired an 1-1/4" pressure line yesterday and waited a whole 15 min. before putting it on line. This may be different in colder climates.

Since you're only installing drain pipes (zero pressure), you should be good to go as soon as you make them up.
I also only wait about 15 minutes for pressurized supply lines, although some recommend the 24 hours.

pvc cement. Different codes apply to pvc cement. Meaning some will allow clear but other require the purple pvc cement. My town allows clear. But other towns require the purple so the plumbing inspector can see the cement was applied.
