pvc to cast iron

hello. I have a 2" cast iron female drain pipe under the kitchen sink which has seen better days. When attempting to snake the drain, I ripped off the male threaded pvc that was connected to it. I went to replace the assembly and the threaded male pvc does not screw into the female CI correctly (I have no idea how it never leaked in the first place).

Anyway, I am proposing the following and an looking for suggestions/thoughts.

1. attach a 2" galvanized close nipple to the threaded CI drain with dope. For some reason, the threads on the GV nipple screw in nicely where the PVC did not.
2. use a frenco 2" to 2" to connect the THREADED close nipple to the pvc. Will a fernco work correctly on the threaded pipe?

Thanks.

I would not use a galvanized nipple. find out why the PVC will not screw in... threads are the same. Or if all else fails a brass nipple and a fernco.

Yep, run a 2" tap through the threads to straighten them out and go back to PVC.

The close nipple screwed into the drain all the way with no resistance. I have seen other applications where a threaded PVC will not fit a female iron pipe.
