Problems replacing two handle shower faucets

hello,
i recently replaced my old/gnarly/outdated two-handle shower faucet handles with two new lever handles. my old set was a price pfister with very limited faucet options, so the only way to get a brushed nickel finish (to match the shower head) was to buy all the pieces from the stems to the handles separately.

the problem is that the universal fittings for the levers are made of plastic that won't grip the end of the stem adequately. everytime we go to turn the lever handle, the plastic part just slides around without turning on the water.

does anyone know how i can keep my modern handles but get a better fit to the stems? i'm willing to buy a kit if there is one in the brushed nickel finish.

Ayuh,...

You'll never make it Right, using Mismatched piecs....

My guess is,... If you want brushed nickel finish, you may Have to swap out the Whole Faucet...

thanks for the tip...by "swap out the faucet" do you mean get a set where the stems, handle, etc all come together? to clarify, we don't actually have a faucet, just the shower head and two handles since it's a stand-up shower.

any ideas about where i can get a brushed nickel two-handle set?

Try the manufacturer of the valves.
