Problem with leaky sink drain/tail piece

Due to our lack of space we were in a position to purchase a pedestal sink for a small bath. But last week and Home Depot we noticed this vanity http://www.homedepot.com/Bath-Bathro...atalogId=10053 that we felt would be a nice change from a pedestal sink. We figured it would have a small footprint while affording us a little storage space.

I installed it yesterday along with a price pfister faucet. While intsalling the drain and tailpiece assembly I noticed that the tailpiece comes through the sink at a slightly odd angle and when I go to tighten the tailpiece against the rubber gasket below the sink it puts it at a slight bind. It doesn't screw up against it flush. If I try to straighten the tailpiece during assembly then it hits the side of the drain hole and won't allow the washer to center up in the hole

Is there a special washer I can purchase that would allow this to work? The tailpiece assembly I'm using came with the faucet and I'm admittetly not crazy about it. I'd be willing to buy a new tailpiece if I knew one that would work better. The vanity is perfect for the bathroom due to the rounded edges of the sink and door clearance.

Problem with leaky sink drain/tail piece

Tail pieces thread into the drain flange. They have very fine threads and are prone to easily cross-thread. Remove the tail piece and make sure the threads are not damaged, and then reinstall it.
