I have a house that has one shower in the basement but the upstairs tub/surround has no shower head and must've only been used for bathing. I'd like to install a shower head in the surround but after having a look at the access panel in the adjacent closest I've noticed that the riser on the shower manifold is plugged and is directly below a framed 2x4. The 2x4 has been cut with ~3-4 inches of clearance above the manifold plug. This 2x4 is directly in line with where the shower head would normally be. What is the best way to deal with this without tearing out the entire surround and remodeling the bath. I can't really afford that right now. I hate to rip the entire wall out to move that 2x4. The walls are plastered.
