pressure switch problem

What causes my sq d pressure swith go to the 40 psi cutoff and not do so, causes pump to run and overheqt?

the contacts could be getting stuck. I had one that started doing that (ran the pressure tank for foamy brush foam at a car wash). It would get stuck. The particular kind i had, you could get a rebuild kit which contained new contacts and springs. I filed the old ones a time or two and that worked for a while, but eventually i ended up rebuilding it. Lasted for another year or two and then i replaced it with a new one. It was the old type, so yours may or may not have contacts. I haven't been in the carwash business for 5 years now, they may not even use the same type anymore.

crap in the switch on the pump side remove it and clean it out....might want to expend it with a nipple and shut you can blow it out

No guys....the problem is with the swith....not switch.

The swith is causing the overheqt problem.
Even if you are on the right track, you will still get run over if you just sit there.
