Power vented water heater noise

The water heater in my home is the power vented type (pvc pipe) . It is only a couple of steps from the living room and when running makes it hard to hear the TV.

Would it be OK to wrap the pipes and vent fan with fiberglas insulation to cut down on the noise? It appears that the blower is sealed and does not take in any air, except from the heater itself.
