Porcelain on Cast Iron Tub

I think it's the original tub with porcelain (?). Porcelain is just my guess. It is a cast iron tub.

The faucet has obviously been dripping for a long time, and still is. I know this is the first thing to fix.

The drips have eroded a trail into the porcelain all the way to the drain.

It has been repaired before. I can see the difference in material and color. Plus a little rust (I think from the water, it is very bad, not the tub)

I bought a refinishing kit, but just realized it is for the WHOLE tub and is Epoxy paint. I'd rather just repair what I have.

Any ideas on how to do this?

Their is no way to properly repair a cast iron tub. The finish is baked on at 800 degrees or so and can only be applied once. What you are doing is just painting the tub. Painting it with the tub repair stuff is good for a few years. Their are professional refinishing companies that you can have come and paint your tub for you. These finishes are much tougher than then ones available to your average consumer. They only have a lifespan of about fifteen years though.
One thing I can tell you not to do is have a handyman come fix your tub. He'll just use the same kit you have, you need to find a good refinishing company.
