what is the best way to reduce 3/4in hose from a pump to 5/8 so that i can attach a garden hose to it

Ayuh,.... Just put yer pipe to hose fittin' on the pump, 'n run 3/4" hose the whole way...
Or,...
Attach the 5/8" hose there...

Garden hoses, 1/2", 5/8", 'n 3/4" all attach with the same threaded fittin's...

3/4" hose? DO you mean something like 3/4" copper or Pex pipe?
More info or better yet a picture sure would help.

Hose fittings are 3/4" regardless of the size of the hose. If you have 3/4" pipe fittings on the pump, you need a 3/4" pipe to 3/4" hose adapter.

I'm pretty sure he means a hose. Copper isn't a hose, and Pex isn't a pipe.

When you say 3/4 hose, what type of hose are you referring to. Like a auto heater hose?, or cut off garden hose?, or water heater flex line??

And go to 5/8 are you talking about a cut off length of garden hose?

What is the outlet of the pump? Female pipe thread, barbed, male pipe thread??? If it is a female pipe thread, obtain a mpt x mht. The mht is a male hose thread and they are all 3/4". The mpt is a male pipe thread and a standard fitting is a 1/2 mpt x ght.

If pump is male pipe thread out, add a coupling in between.
If it is a barbed fitting it will likely be screwed into the pump.

Now if it is a hose only out. Home supply would have hose repair fittings for your 1/2, 5/8, and 3/4 inch hoses that are available in fht/repair, mht/repair, or coupling. I doubt you will be able to go to 3/4 from 5/8 with a repair coupling instead having to go to repair/hose thread at which point you can add standard garden type hose.
PS spring for the brass fittings instead of the cheap plastic. Only have to buy once.
