plumbing water heaters

our code in my area is 8 inch of galvanized out of water heater. the manufactures only ship 4 inch

Your code actually requires 8 inches of specifically galvanized? If so the take out the 4 inch nipple and go get 8 inch. Be sure to use a dielectric union if going to sweat copper. Although I suspect flex lines will be used.
