plumbing a washing machine in basement

I am planning on moving my washing machine into my basement, there is a sewer line with a 4 inch clean out near by which runs to the septic tank by gravity. Can I install an adapter into the clean out and then run the washer drain though a p trap and then into this drain?I would really like to find out how do to this right if this will not work.

Yes- Take the cleanout cap out. Add a fitting there then put a Y in with a clean out in it. Then run your pipe over to the washing machine. Put a p-trap in line-- ohh make that drain a 2in line. You really should hook a vent to it. Without seeing it I can't tell you were a vent is to hook into. Hope that helps.
