Plumbing Kitchen Sink on Outside wall in Cold Weather Climate (MN)

Hello,

I am remodeling my kitchen, and I currently have my hot and cold water lines coming out of the floor inside my kitchen (about 6" from the wall). The pipes are coming up from my unfinished basement. I would like to move the pipes to the inside of the outside wall, so they can come out of the back of my cabinets, instead of coming out of the floor or my cabinets. But I am worried about the pipes freezing, and was wondering if there is anything I can do to prevent that from happening. Also note, there is a HVAC vent in the exact area where my plumbing is. Will insulating the wall along with the heater be enough, or should I just deal with them coming out of the floor?

Thanks!

We always come out of the floor when the sink is on an outside wall. If you put them in the wall you will have them freeze on you at some point.

Yep, never in the outside wall in your climate. Even here in the balmy mid atlantic, we have outside wall plumbing freeze on occasion.

I had to move some from the outside wall to the floor. The owner had used heat cord to keep them from freezing. Just leave them in the floor and work that into your new design. Outside walls get way to cold around here for pipes to run through them.

If you just don't want to *see* them then you can bring them up from the floor and build a concealment box of some type - out of furring strips (paint it) - so at least the concealment will blend in and look a bit more aesthetically appealing.
