My niece lives in a townhouse in Brampton. Recently she has been seeing what appears to be a black substance coming up from her drain in both the bathroom sink as well as the bathtub. I have seen a photo of this, (I don't have the photo otherwise I would try to add it to this post), and it looks to me like melting PVC pipe. My niece believes it is mold but my understanding is that mold must grow on something organic. Nothin in the drain pipe is organic to my knowledge. It also seems to come and go. One day the sink, next the bathtub.
Has anyone ever experienced anything similar to this?
I will let the plumbing experts tackle this one, but, I have seen similar "stuff" when a drain line was partially clogged or clogged pretty far out along the drain line and that "stuff" was getting pushed BACK into the drains of the sinks/bathtubs, etc. If I had to guess, I would say she has a clog that will need addressed.
I had a thread started but I can't seem to find it now. I mentioned if I was able to get a photo I would post it. The 2 replies I have received both suggested the drain is clogged. After reviewing this photo would you still agree that is the problem? The black "stuff" migrates up from inside the drain.
Id guess its old hair and soap turning into funky mess in there ,Id start by running some bleach in there then after about 30 minutes Id flush really hot water down it for a few minutes.
