Removed old shut off valves from bathromm sink. New compression fitting, a slide on style sold by watts. is allowing the water to flow back outside of the pipse but jnside the fitting. I s the od of the pipe too small?

Prolly not, installer error. But its hard to say from your description. Can you upload a picture? Or a better description.

OK, what is coming out of the wall or floor for a pipe?
