Plumbers putty or puttyless washer?
I'm getting ready to replace a sink drain in a pedestal sink. Unfortunately, replacing the sink drain in this particular sink is a real PITA, so I'd prefer not to do it again.
The Keeney drain I picked up at Lowe's comes with a puttyless washer, which I've never used before. Do you think the puttyless washer is okay or should I stick with traditional plumber's putty? BTW, I take it I shouldn't use both, correct? Thanks, Kelly |

Plumbers putty or puttyless washer?
some drains used to come with 2 washers for the bottom, one rubber
and one fiber or paper as a friction washer so the rubber washer didn't spin out as you tightened the nut. i always threw the ones for the top away and used putty. never had a problem for the 20 years a did plumbing. |
