plumbers putty or not ?

1 Attachment(s)
I bought a new SS sink and the instruction for installing the basket do not mention putty. There is a rubber washer and then the last washer to contact the inside of the sink is a paper washer. Is this something new that eliminates having to use putty ? If i did use putty would I just put the bead on first and the put the washers on top of the bead ? OR put the washers on first and then the bead ?

thanks!

ok I just re-read the install instructions, they say this:

basket
rubber washer
sink
rubber washer #2
paper washer
big nut
no mention of putty ......

so again is this standard now to use the rubber washer and not putty? Which is considered best putty or washer? I assume never both...?

thanks!

Putty or silicone is industry standard. Toss the top casket
