please help me remove toilet valve made of plastic
My toilet valve leaks. It is made by some kind of plastic by the builder. The water line connection tube is integral to the valve body. I want to remove the cheap one and replace with a good metal one bought from HomeDepot. Please tell me how to remove the old. I know how to install the new one once the old one is removed. BTY, I cannot cut the incoming tube otherwise I would not have enough tube to intall the new one. Thanks.

Wfang, I took your post from the thread it was posted in and started you a new thread to get your question answered for you.
We need more information to be able to help you. We need to know what type of plastic pipe you have coming up from your floor or wall. Is it PVC, CPVC, or PEX? If you can post a picture here or link to a picture of the situation, I'm confident we can figure it out for you. |

The old plastic valve with the integral toilet tube was installed on 1/2 inch copper pipe by the builder. It was leaking at the joint of the valve and the tube. I figured out that it must be twisted on since there is no nut to unscrew. I was right and it can be twisted off easily. I bought a new compression type 1/4 turn toilet valve and a 3/8 inch toilet tube from HomeDepot. I am very happy after installation.
A word of caution is that do not over-tight the 3/8 inch toilet tube nut on the valve. It uses rubber seal in stead of compression on the 1/2 inch inlet copper pipe.
