Pipe size

I have a water line outside connected to my hoseand every year when I turn my water on the pipe is split. I winterize, drain the line and open the nozzles, is the 1/2 too small

Ayuh,.... It don't matter what size ya use,...

It's gotta be blown out, nearly Dry, or any water left sits in a sag, 'n freezes, splittin' the pipe...

Is this an above ground line?
Do you have it connected to water hydrant?

Post a picture.

It splits because there is water in not because it is too small. You might drain it but if the shut off has tiny leak it will drip and fill it again.
