Pipe just started leaking

I was painting my basement office this afternoon and noticed a pipe that had been previously painted that had bubbles forming under the paint on the bottom of the pipe. I was going to paint over the pipe but before I did I knicked it with a blade to shave off the old paint. A chunk of paint and rust came off and the pipe started leaking. I discovered that this is the pipe leading from my sink/dishwasher to the main. It is about 15 feet long. I have a couple of plumbers coming over on Monday to check it out. Do you repair something like this or replace? Thanks

That all depends on how much will need to removed and replace and your areas cost of living.

I received quotes ranging from 500 to 1,500 dollars. Wrapped the pipe in duct tape and it stopped leaking. Bought me time to find a better deal.

Since this is a DIY site, please refrain from discussions regarding the costs plumbers should charge to do work.

If that pipe is completely accessible, you can do it yourself.

A 10 ft. section of 2" pvc pipe can't cost more than $10.
