pipe fittings

I have some large pipe on my well system and it has a bunch of nipples and valves. One nipple is bad in the center of the system. How do I replace it. seems like if I loosen one fitting another tightens.

Could you show us a picture? It's hard to make a suggestion without knowing exactly what you're talking about.

That's what unions, slip couplings and the like are for.
Always ask to see your contractors license!

you'll have to follow the line untill you get to either a union (it will resemble a big nut with a pipe threaded into each end) or a flanged joint.. (you must replace the gasket if you take the joint apart, Id suggest with a full face gasket as its easier to re-install) or you come to the end or beginning, my guess is its going to be closer to the end of the run.
good luck!

Depending on the length of the bad nipple: You could cut right through it, remove the two pieces, use two shorter nipples and a union for repair. David
