Pipe Connects Laundry Sink to Trap

I am putting in a new laundry sink and it is slightly lower than my old one.I have a plastic pipe to connect to the trap, but I could not seem to put it in far enough. Do I need to clean out the part that I put it into?

Also, my plastic pipe cutting technique sucks. Any tips? And my teflon tape just ripped right off. I know I wound it in the right direction.

Pipe Connects Laundry Sink to Trap

Slow down and explain this one more time----

These are the parts ---connected to the sink--

tail piece and tail piece washer---

P-trap

coming out of the wall--1 1/2" pipe with a threaded trap connector---

New sinks have the drain further back than older sinks---is the P-trap to long?

Tail pieces usually need cutting---

Teflon tape is not used under the sink as all those parts seal by compression---Mike---

Pictures help of you can't figure out how to describe the situation----
