I am going to try and tackle some plumbing troubles at home. I want to learn how to use pex. Most of the pipes in my house are galvanized so I think I can screw the pex adapters into the galv pipes and not have to solder. I don't trust myself soldering. Is there any how to guide about pex? What is the best, most versitile tool to buy?
Galvanized pipe does not require soldering. If you are replacing galvanized, depending on the age of the pipe you may have a hard time getting it apart. If you are adding new runs, there are fittings that screw into galvanized and adapt to PEX. Be sure to use thread sealant on all threded fittings.
