Pedestal sink drain replace

I need to replace the drain on my pedestal sink and am having a hard time accessing it behind the pedestal. Is there a trick to it? It doesn't appear that I can remove the pedestal without removing the basin.

Pedestal sink drain replace

Not really. I hate doing pedestal sinks for this reason, and I have small hands compared to some. Basin wrenches sometimes work a bit easier, but there is little space for most tools or hands.
