Pea trap leak

I replaced a garbage disposal and had to rebuild the plastic pipes to fit the new disposal. Now the pea trap leaks and I have tried applying the proper torque to stop the leak without success. Any thoughts?

At joint where pea trap connects from tail coming from the right side of the sink. It is only a slight leak.

check to make sure you put the white nylon washer in the right way. If it's turned backwards it'll leak for sure. They are slightly tapered on one side.

I have the tapered facing down!

The tapered side of the nylon washer is pointing down.

If you reused the old nylon washer--they sometimes get stretched out and need replacing--

if it's a new trap, it may have come with more than one size washer. The washer should slide up the tailpiece very tightly. If it doesn't there could be another smaller size washer that came in the package. If it does, sometimes you really have to tighten the ring pretty snug. Is where it joins on a pretty straight shot? If it's cocked to one side, it causes problems also. I'd also check to make sure the leak is not leaking where the tail joins the bottom of the sink and running down to the p-trap, making it look like the trap is leaking.

On rare occasions a small burr on a mating surface can cause a small leak--check the mating surfaces with your finger tip.
