Which one is the right Pex Brass Fitting

Home tap water system: need to connect a plastic pipe to a copper pipe,

Home depot people say only the first one is right, the 2nd one is for something else:

first one:
http://www.homedepot.ca/product/3-4-...oupling/954440

2nd one:
http://www.homedepot.ca/product/3-4-...oupling/954422

does it really matter?

Thanks!

If you are asking this question, then I'm not sure you are qualified to do this work.
The first one appears to be a sweat to pex transition. The second one is a 1/2 pex to 3/4 pex transition. (Although the pic doesn't match the description.)

There are many different types of plastic pipe, including PVC, ABS, HDPE, CPVC, PEX, PB, nylon (and a few others I have not mentioned). The correct fitting requires knowledge of the type of pipe. Sometimes it is marked on the pipe itself. Do not rely on a big box store for this type of advice, you need to go to a plumbing supply store. If you are going to install copper anyway, you can remove a few inches of the plastic pipe, and bring it in to the plumbing supply store, they will be able to identify it and give the correct fitting.
