Odor in basement
I have read a recent post regarding odor in a basement after running a washing machine. We have a similar problem and can't seem to rid ourselves of the problem. We have had a plumber check our drains and he recommended keeping the traps from drying out. What is interesting is we get the odor along the floorboard on the exterior wall. It gets worse when we run the washer, more so during final cycle. Now we get an odor when it gets windy outside during the cold weather. Again along the floorboards on the external wall. I have tried to seal along the base to try and eliminate the smell (rotten eggs). We have public sewers, no septic. Additionaly, we can sometimes smell the same odor outside, driving up the street (not always). There has been a lot of new home construction in the area. Could this be an over use problem?
We have checked our vents and they seem fine. Could we be getting a smell from water under the foundation, with gases coming up through cracks along the baseboard?
I'm stumped and can use some suggestions.

Is it a finished basement?

If it is finished basement, is it drywalls surrounded? if it is , do you see molding sign?

The exterior wall is block. There is no drywall and no sign of mold or anything of that sort. I was wondering if water could be present in the block or under the foundation causing the odor while doing a laundry cycle...creating a venting imbalance. Moreover, the odor isn't always present at the end of each wash cycle either. It's hit and miss. Today, we could smell a strong odor during one cycle. I got on my hands an knees and could really smell a strong rotten egg odor where the block and floor meet. It was present along most of the wall which is about 60 feet. It was present in an ajacent room as well.
