Noise when hot water enters drain

Whenever we empty a boiling pot, or the dishwasher drains out hot water, or we continuously run hot water from the faucet we get a clicking/thumping sound from the pipe.

Is there anything that can be done to prevent this noise? I assume it is the expanding of the pipe from the heat? However I thought the PVC piping was made to withstand this?

Noise when hot water enters drain

The noise is from the pipe rubbing against the wood studs and/or joists it passes through, as it expands from the heat.

It is a continuous click until all water drains or we put cold water down the drain. How can this be remedied? This is the first house we have ever had this problem on.

Open the wall and enlarge the holes or replace with cast iron. The installation is rubbing on wood. No clean, easy fix.
