No water due to broken shower handles

I have a rental unit I am working on and noticed that I was not able to turn on the water due to some broken shower handles. I bought a new setup as I need to replace the head too. The first new handle went on fine. Unfortunately the second handle has a completely different setup and cannot figure out my next move. Is this something I can fix (change around the setup to be compatible or is it time to call a pro? I attached a picture of it. The one closest to us is the one I am having trouble with.

The handles need the exact same Formation inside the plastic as the stems do to fit. This stems this looks like a very old shower body system.. Maybe old Indiana system or maybe even price pfister?... If I was u I would take the diverter out ( the middle stem) as long as the water is off water won't come out then take it to a home depot or pluming supply co. And see if u can find out what knobs would fit.
