No Hot Water at Kitchen Sink

For the past week or two I haven't been able to get any hot water to the kitchen sink if I were to just turn on the faucet to the hot setting. I'd let it run for 20 minutes with no hot water. I get hot water from all other faucets/showers in the house.

However, I recently discovered that if I turn on the hot water at the faucet in the bathroom next to the kitchen, then hot water will start to come out of the kitchen sink faucet.

Another side note, I think that the dishwasher is also affected by this, because it doesn't seem to be drying properly, which might be a lack of hot water and heat.

Can anyone help me out with this? I have a tankless hot water heater, which has always taken a little more time to heat up. Does that have anything to do with it?

Thanks so much for the help,
Matt

When's the last time that the heater has been back flushed and cleaned.
Electric or gas heater?
If it's gas turn on the hot water and see if the heater starts up.
There's a scenor inside the heater that sences flow, low water flow or a the sencors dirty it will not turn on the heater.

No Hot Water at Kitchen Sink

Its gas. Just ran a test and the pilot lite is not igniting when I turn on the kitchen sink, but is igniting when I turn on other faucets. The kitchen sink does have pretty low water pressure, do you think this is the issue? How can I fix it? Would the water lines to the dishwasher and the kitchen sink be the same?

Thanks so much for the help,
Matt

Is this low pressure a new problem? Or one of long standing?
That'll determine what to look to for remedies.

Anyway... well or city water? Copper pipe or other? How old is house?

Water pressure everywhere else in the house is good, no complaints. The water pressure at the kitchen sink has always been on the low side since I moved in a year ago. I'm on city water and the house is late 1800s. Whether it is copper or other pipping that I do not know.

Thanks agin,
Matt

check under the sink and see if one of the kids turned off the hot supply valve. Try turning it on and off a few times, and tap it lightly with a wrench. Who knows, could work.

If you have a single lever kitchen fixture, it has a cartridge in it, and they usually have a screen right in the cartridge, That could be a problem too, but does not speak to the dishwasher. Maybe it has a strainer on the intake too.

Sorry Matt, I should have paid better attention. Post a picture of the pipes running to your kitchen fixture. If you have galvanized pipe, it is probably clogged solid from internal corrosion.

Does your house have a basement or is it concrete slab construction with your water lines buried underground?

My money is on a clogged hot shut off valve.
I'll bet the hot water to the faucet and dish washer share a valve.

If I'm right replace that valve and you should be good to go .
