Mike--that PDF shows a different cartridge than the 7100(?) cartridge that the OP has in her picture,

Yeah you're right Mike. I was trying to match up her faucet by the shape and style of the spout. It looked like the white plastic piece on top of her cartridge was the removable piece in the pdf I linked. Her cartridge is different from most of the moens I have seen. Still would like to know why she was having trouble getting that chrome dome piece off.

Here is the cartridge. I will remove that ring and send a picture if you really want it, but only after I take it off the sink first---tomorrow.

That chrome piece with the clips should unscrew in order to get access to the large nut.

Yeah,
you guys got me. I was laughing when I was typing it. Actually, the pdf I linked was the first one I came across that looked like hers according to the pic of the spout. There were quite a few pages of faucets to look through. At least it was a moen.

The whole idea was to remove the spout in order to change/lubricate the spout--
For that the cowling needs to be removed.

That collar was plastic, and it did screw off with damage to the chrome colored coating.

Put some grease on the O-rings and it was still difficult to move side to side, so I don't think it would have helped that much.

Put in a new faucet tonight. Thanks for all your help.
