New Toilet install/Basement

I am considering installing a half bath in the basement.

Now, I'm a commercial roofer not a plumber. However there are alot of DIY jobs I tackle myself.

I would like to DIY this job and am wondering what the plumbers and other sthink about the "up-flush toilets. Such as the Sani-flo with the macerating pump. I would also hook up the vanity to the pump as well.

I have a clear access to the main cast iron drain and water lines.

I would prefer not having to jack the floor.

I have no knowledge of these toilets myself, there not here where I live, and code here will not allow them here.

My friend was considering a Mascerating toilet for his basement bathroom. For a while. We researched them quite a bit and found lots of praise. We even found that a guy we know has one and loves it. Never had a problem. He was the one where the pump hides behind the wall too. The one big drawback is that they are incredible expensive. Upwards of about $1000 for a nice setup.

BTW, funny ending to the story - I had never actually been in the basement of his house the whole time we had consider doing this. When I finally went in I learned something interesting. The sewer pipe was just below the surface where he wanted the toilet, not above it. $150 later and a little bit a work, we had a regular toilet in place.

The code issue is a non issue here. I've checked into it.

Price is a consideration.

I'm not exactly a young man anymore which is why I'm selling now rather than installing. And Jack hammering is a young mans job!

Are YOU saying you do have a drain line suitable for use under the concrete floor? Or the up flush is because you have "ONLY" hookup above the floor level? If you dont want to jackhammer try using a cement saw or blade in your saw and saw a box where you can connect in your floor and plumb it down there. Saw a little at a time!! Then a sack of quick crete after you get your flange set up and you are good to go. I would never have one of those 'spensive gizmoes where I didnt HAVE to have one!!! If all else fails have some youngen help you with a slight bribe!! OR go rent a saw from a rental place and find somebody strong enough to run it!! Still cheaper than what you were talking about. Food and drink, works every time!!!

When all else fails it would still be cheaper to hire a plumber to rough it in!!
