Default New Toilet Does Not Flush

Just installed a new American Standard Model 2474 Toilet in a new basement bathroom. Got it all connected, went to flush toilet and water would not go down. I removed toilet to inspect the wax ring, this was ok. I replaced toilet again with a new wax ring. Same symptom. I tried everything. The water in the tank is right up to the top of the overflow standpipe. The one thing I did notice and this has me very puzzled is when i partially cover the hole that is in the front of the base of the bowl then it flushes fine.
Does anyone have any suggestions. Home Depot is baffled by this. There suggestion is to call American Standard which i will do.
Thank you

Did you make sure the drain line was clear before you set the toilet? I've seen people stuff a wad of pink insulation or rags down there to prevent sewer gases from entering the house. Also, is the waste pipe and sewage ejector (if there is one) properly vented? If the effluent is going to an unvented sewage ejector, AND the waste pipes aren't vented properly, it isn't going to work.

Barring anything like those above, I'd probably just get a different toilet. It's been years since I've used American Standard mainly because they're relatively poor flushers (compared to Toto and Kohler).

Default New Toilet Does not Flush

Thank you for the suggestions. There is nothing in the drain line that would interfere with the flush. I can pour water into the bowl and it will drain as fast as I can pour it in. I called American Standard this morning about this problem, they are sending me a new bowl. They indicated that there could possibly be a problem with the mold.
