New taps : is it me ?

I am trying to fit a new pair of bath taps. The instructions state :

"Globe taps are supplied with a threaded tube to be sealed into the tap body using a suitable thread sealant prior to connecting to pipework."

I have now fitted both taps twice using PTFE when screwing the threaded tube into the tap. First time I did 4 twists of PTFE and second time about 6 twists. Every time there has been a very slight leak from both taps.

I am starting to wonder whether a "suitable thread sealant" means something other than PTFE ? Any advice appreciated as I have never fitted a tap before !

I would use both tape and a teflon based pipe dope such as "Rectorseal T plus 2" It doesn't matter which goes on first but most people apply tape first- 3 wraps is plenty, then apply a layer of pipe dope

Can you post a picture?
Guessing you mean a shut off valve.
A globe valve is the last type of valve I'd ever pick as a shut off.
A ball valve would have been a far better choice.
A globe will restrict the flow and is prone to failure and leaking over time.

Sounds like new valve stems to me. Where is the leak coming from? Around the stem, or out of the spout or showerhead?
