New Shower Gooseneck issues

Okay, we just remodeled our master bath and the glass was just installed on the shower so I am wanting to use the shower! I go to hook up the shower head and I am having trouble screwing the gooseneck pipe into the brass fitting. I am using teflon tape. At first the pipe was sticking after only one and a half rotations, now I can get it about five rotations before it gets really hard to turn. Is there anything I can do? would dope work better? The threads feel kinda rough. The first time I got it twisted in about 5 turns total and turned on the water and it was pouring out, so I need to get it around at least 3 more times for a proper seal. Help! Is there something that could be used to clean the threads?

get a nipple the same size as the gooseneck pipe and hand thread it in raw no teflon then put a channel locks on it to clear the grooves..you should go in hand tight then one full turn with a wrench on the gooseneck for final install
