New member with no hot water!

Hi folks, Im new to this forum, and i hope that someone might be able to help. :)

I have oil fired central heating. All the rads are heating up great, but I have no hot water. The hot water cylinder is cold. The pipe that enters the top of the tank is hot, and the very top of the cylinder is warm (about the first 2 inches of the top of the tank). Im thinking that there is an airlock?

I hope someone can advise and offer a solution!

Thanks,

Moss

If you have a system that I understand you have it could be that a valve is closed. Try to explain you water heating and heating system a little better. Does your water circulate through your heat system to heat the water or is it a oil water heater?

Yup, do you have an indirect hot water heater? A coil? Or an oil fired tank? How did the problem come about? Did you do change something, shut the water down, etc? Did it gradually stop working or just all of a sudden quit?
It's normal for a tank not to be warm, their is a ton of insulation on it.

Thanks for the replies. Lets see if i can explain this better....

My heating system consists of an oil powered boiler, that when switched on heats the rads and also the water in the hot water cylinder at the same time. Now my system is linked with my fire which has a pump and back boiler. Recently with the cold evenings I have taken to lighting the fire and putting on the pump to help heat the rads instead of using the oil heating. The following day when the oil heating came on with the timer i noticed that I had no hot water, so i removed the insulation from around the cylinder and it was stone cold.

I hope that helps a little guys.

Thanks

Moss

Everything seems to be back to normal again. I switched the pump on that connects to the fire, and it seems to have cleared any airlock as I now have a full tank of hot water!

Thanks for all your help guys!
