We've decided since we're gutting, removing walls, building walls and creating a master bedroom we might as well make a master bath. The only hitch is we know nothing about making a bathroom. Currently we have an area 12'8"x5'8" for our bath. It has 3 outside load bearing walls. If you took L____J and flipped it thats what it would look like. Its also on the second floor and the house was built in 1900. The floor joists are rough cut 2x7 3/4" with 3/4" black walnut hardwood flooring over the top. Not sure what kind of wood the joists are made of. We live in Western New York if that helps. The floor joists run from the L to the J. My first question is about floor load. One corner whirlpool tub we're looking at says it has a Total Weight

Will my floor be able to handle this weight or do I need to reinforce the floor joists? Could I just reinforce the center floor joist? Its going in the corner against 2 load bearing walls. I'm planning on pulling up the hardwood floor that in there to install all the plumbing and electric and laying down plywood and rockboard. Also we're planning on tiling the exterior of the tub on the side and a half that are showing and the floor. Not sure how much that weight will effect it. Is there an online calculator so I can find out in the future when we remodel our bath down stairs next year?

If you know nothing about plumbing my suggestion is hire a professional plumber. I am sure that it is possible but hard to tell you what to do over a computer. Best to take the time and spend the money by hiring pros. Good Luck
