New Homeowner- Township and Sump pump

I recently purchased a home about a year and a half ago. It's about 90 years old. There was a sump pump installed when I moved in so I'm a little perturbed about what's happening now.

I received a violations code stating I need to redirect the water being pumped from my basement so as not to create icing in the street in the winter.

After extensive research, it seems the problem is not that my pump is dispensing water into the street, but that the water seems to be pooling at the curb, creating a hazard.

The piping extends from the side of my house, disappears underground and I'm assuming comes out at the curb. Is there a way to remedy this situation without having to dig everything up and redirect it?

Please help-- new homeowner, recently divorced and a graduate student

Ask your township what your options are.

Can you connect it to the sewer?

Can you install a "dry well"?

Ask what other people do who have this problem in your area?

Then if you know how to fix the problem, do it yourself. Or learn how to do it. Or hire someone.

Why would you need to dig everything up? Just run a new line to someplace else (back yard, maybe?), disconnect the old line at the pump, and connect the new one.
