New dishwasher headache!!

Hello! I installed a dishwasher a few weeks ago. Every time I run a load of dishes through it, I end up with about a half inch of water sitting inside of it... and it ends up stinking after a few days. I've read that typically this is caused by the drainage pipe not going high enough before entering the drain, but mine is just about as high as the top of the sink. I thought maybe there was a kink in the drainage line, so I pulled the dishwasher out entirely and, making sure the line ran perfectly, ran another load through the dishwasher... still standing water. The dishwasher is level. I'm not sure what else to look for?? The filter looks clean as well. Thanks for your help!

PS... drain hose enters above the trap, no air gap, no garbage disposal.
