New bathtub creaks when standing in it

This is a tub with styrofoam base. It only does it when you step on the back end. I noticed the stringer I put for the back doesnt make contact with the tub but Im not sure if I was supposed to put a stringer for the back anyway. Its a steel tub. With tubs with styrofoam are you not supposed to use any mortar to place them in?

By stringer do you mean a ledger strip for support? Did the installation instructions call for Mortar?

Yep---I would have---just a thin bed--enough to make sure there is full contact.

Mainly I use cast iron tubs---these steel tubs are flexible---so the cast iron is worth the extra expense to avoid problems like this.

Is the tub supposed to make contact with the stringer, resting on it, or is it supposed to be right above it?

It rests on the stringer----some times they must be notched to clear some obstruction on the tub---

Pull it out put a stringer in as instructed. Also do not forget the roofing nails above the tub lip.

when i first started we would use sand but we found out long term if tub flexes it will disperse sand to different location and then you still end up with stress cracks
mortar all the way unless it is full ridgidized foam bottom and floor is level then a few tubes of silicone between to prevent squeaking
