New ballcock shank kit too large for toilet?

Hi all,

I had to replace the internals of my toilet, which included a new ballcock shaft (or is it shank) replacement kit. Anyway, after the installation, it seems that the top of the ballcock shank extends above the top of the rear toilet water basin. This is not only making it difficult to put the lid flush back on the top of the toilet, but it's also impacting the function of the ballcock shank valve during flushes, as the weight of the porcelain lid is pushing down on the valve (you can envision that by referencing the pic(s) below).

Is this normal? I'd expect the size to be universal and for the lid to go back on as it was before. The new ballcock shank kit does seem to be properly fitted to the base of the basin, so I'm not sure what else to check.. which is why I'm creating this thread!

Anyway help would be much appreciated!

Thank you so much in advance!

It will work on just about any toilet but just measure the height you needed (or just measure your old valves height and measure one before you leave the store with it.
Must have pick the wrong person there because they stock at least three differant styles and several differant brands.

LOL, you guys have a nice sense of humor.

Anyway, just thought I'd let you guys know that I installed the FluidMaster 400A today and after adjusting the water level I am very happy to say that the toilet works flawlessly.

In addition, the adjustable height of the water valve shaft made it easy to ensure the top of the shaft fit under the tank lid while also allowing me to ensure the critical line water level mark was set according to plumbing code, and the water level itself was set about .75" from the top of the refill tube.

Thanks so much again for recommending this product. It was really easy to install and very easy to adjust to find that perfect fitment for my toilet in just about every possible aspect.

I've learned a lot once again from the pros here on DIY Chatroom!

Thanks!
B
