Need water heater recommendation: tankless or not

Hi All,
I need to replace my water heater. Can't decide if I want to go tankless or regular natural gas. Family of 4, two bathrooms. Probably need 40 gallon if I get a regular one. Would like to get one that qualifies for PGE rebate, which needs an Energy rating of over .65. Would love recommendations for both types.

Thanks!
Greg

I wouldn't suggest tankless. You'll never re-coup your money.

Stick with 50 gal tank type

I'd go with the RUUD Pro Series

Since you recommended this model, what are features that one should look for when considering a tank water heater?

Kind of a tough question.. there are a lot of determining factors. i.e., energy consumption, location, size, code requirements..

Nevertheless, I'd stick with a manufacturer that's been around. Rheem, RUUD, American, are pretty much it. I think American makes a lot of knock-off's like Premiere, Rheem makes GE, etc. I would purchase directly from a plumbing supply house also, and not a box store.

I think a history of longevity and Energy Star efficiency ratings are most important. Although ever paying extra for a warranty longer than the typical 5 or 6 years is silly.

Proper maintenance is also key regardless of which tank type water heater you choose.

What about AO Smith?

I currently have a 50 gal gas.
