Need old tub faucet STOP

I re-tiled an old bathroom with an old tub/shower faucet. Discovered a missing white plastic STOP on the cold water side. The inside of this white stop is fluted to fit onto the stem. The outside has a nub which stops the faucet from turning when it reaches the OFF position. Without this stop, the faucet handle will continue to turn 360 degrees and is difficult to position to the OFF position.

I have checked all local stores. I cannot find this STOP. Anyone have an idea of where I can find one?

I have shown a photo of the rear of the faucet to show its age. It does not appear to be one which would allow me to remove the stems. It appears to be one piece, brass.

In general, if it's hex it's meant to be turned with a wrench. If it's knurled it's meant to be turned with our fingers. Just a couple of tid bits I've learned in life.

Try your local hardware store, like ace. Additionally, check your local plumbing supply store, they may have one sitting around they'll give you. Take the good stop with you and try to match it up. Just a suggestion.

If no luck, unfortunately, you may have to buy a new stem or a rebuild kit just to get the stop you need. Regardless, easy fix, about 5-10 dollars.

Thanks for this input. I will try some smaller stores as you suggested. I have tried all the mega stores with no success.

Do you think this old "I" shaped unit has removable stems? I thought it looked like one piece, although since I installed the tile it's hard to see the base of the stems. Are you using "stem" as also meaning "cartridge" ?
The newer cartridges just pull out, I think ?

Your welcome.

Yes. That whole older stem-type valve should just unscrew with a deep well socket (ccw), if needed. Just make sure to turn off water and open faucet first.

Just a suggestion, if you go that route, replace both stems at the same time and be done with it. You'll never have to worry about it again.
