Question

Need New Gas Lines From Meter Run. Thoughts on What Plumber Told Me Option Wise

Hi everyone, I had gas meter recently installed in a place I am rehabbing. 4 total items will use gas (water heater, dryer, stove & HVAC). I told the plumber I wanted black pipe run. He mentioned he would probably opt for a manifold and steel piping. He mentioned that with a manifold gas pressure would not fluctuate. I understand that, but now I know that running pipes to each section of the basement just shot up 4 fold. He mentioned that also since I wanted the pipe run inbetween the joists he would use flexible steel. I imagine he was referring to CSST.

I am not huge on CSST after doing some research and reading how lighting strikes on houses have cause massive explosions.

Wanted to get some thoughts on what people thought? And what would typical costs be for going with rigid steel, csst and or black pipe. Main line would be probably around 25ft with the branches.

I am not a pipe fitter or plumber but I have been around long enough to know that black pipe is the preferred method of running gas lines.

Go ahead all you new age guys tell me I am wrong and about the new products out there today enlighten me so then I will know.

I'm thinking a price of close to 3K would be about right.
It's like deja' vu all over again

I just looked at the article D'Brie shared that CSST looks like cool stuff I would recommend a couple things first though before I hired someone for installation.

#1 Plumbers License.

#2 Check References

#3 Have him submit insurance certificate *********

#4 Have him submit CSST certification that he is Qualified to install said product.

#5 Get at least 3 quotes for Black pipe and CSST.

#6 He pull permits from the township or County as needed.

#7 Final inspection by an authorized person from the County or Township.

I know it seems to be overkill but it's not if he is a legit Contractor he should not even flinch at your request. Remember it's to late after it's in and he's gone you live with the results.

Sultini, very good point about the csst certification. The license and permit without a doubt I will be checking right off the bat.
