Need to mount a shower head

Ok, my house is old and does not have an actual shower, but we do have a faucet with the little outlet that's currently hooked to one of those handheld shower heads.

Problem is I'd like to be able to use the showerhead hands free as well. I've searched every store in the area and they have plenty of kits that mount the showerhead to your existing shower pipe....but I don't have a shower pipe.

So what are my options?

I'm also open to putting a new handheld shower kit in there (the old one is white plastic and kinda ugly) as long as I can find one that comes with a mount that doesn't require a shower pipe to mount to. Thanks!

You could mount a "false" shower pipe, so to speak.

They also have some that mount on a vertical bar...looks kinda like a grab bar.

I'll see if I can find a link.

What type of wall is there...meaning, shower surround? Tile? Drywall/paint? Or what?

EDIT: HERE is a link to one of many choices.

this one is $150 but there may be some available that are cheaper...I don't know.

bottom part is sort of a plastic (maybe fiberglass) paneling and the top is wood.

hard to explain, but the walls in my house are completely composed of 1x8 boards (house was built in 1940s). basically picture something like a hardwood floor.....but from floor to ceiling in every room.

this thread has some pictures from before I recovered the shower area with the plastic/fiberglass panels. Bathroom Remodel help

That looks like it'd be easy enough to attach a (whatever you choose) to and it would be plenty secure.

I'll also throw this in here:

If you're planning on covering/reworking the walls, NOW is the time to take some of it down and put in a "real" shower, if that's something you think you'll ever want.

Fake it...
adapt pipe fittings/valves to affix the shower riser pipe OUTSIDE the wall.

If you're finicky you can blow a small was on chrome plated stuff

not worried about putting in a "real" shower later. just need to keep this thing from hanging.

basically I'm doing a "poor man's remodeling" job on the bathroom and in a decade or so when we owe less on the house and have done many of the other things that need doing around the house I'll have a pro come in and really remodel it.
