I think the code in my area is 10 feet, but you can use 1/4" soft copper and make it as long as you want. I'd use one piece only, don't splice it in the middle or anything like that

Yes and you should install a regular valve and reduce it to 1/4 " don't use them cheap saddle valves they leak and cause problems.

Also, many AHJs in my area prohibit the use of the flexible plastic supply lines sold for this purpose.
