Need help with sink drain and tailpiece

Hi fellow DIYers!

I'm working on replacing the faucet and drain on our guest bathroom. However, the central air conditioning drain line runs into the old faucet drain. When I took out the old drain I don't have room to fit a tailpiece with a 0.5" or 0.75" diameter branch. I'm a little stumped on how to proceed.

Should I get a tailpipe with a branch and run a new rubber hose to the AC drain and drop the trap to allow for more space?

First picture is with the new drain installed with the existing trap.

Second picture is an idea I have to add a tailpiece with a branch and run a new rubber hose to that tailpiece.

Third picture was the old drain that shows the old rubber drain line run into the drain about half way down into a branch.

Need help with sink drain and tailpiece

Not sure I understand. Why not just get a new tailpiece with an inlet?

Just replace the old one in kind? You are making it harder than it has to be. Damn good pictures, by the way.

Need help with sink drain and tailpiece

Thanks for the replies! I'm really new at this so pardon my lack of knowledge.

paintdrying, when you mean get a new tailpiece with an inlet, do you mean attach it to the bottom of the new drain I installed? I would need to lower the p-trap, correct?

jagans, the faucet I bought comes with a plastic drain (grey piece in the first picture). I'm not sure how to add in a branch/inlet. Would I have to get a new faucet/drain and swap out the drain piece with one that has a branch?

Need help with sink drain and tailpiece

You need a 1 1/4 threaded branch tailpiece something like this:

It would replace the new tailpiece that came with your new drain. Or, you could clean up the old one and reuse it.

Need help with sink drain and tailpiece

I was able to track down an 8" tailpiece with a 3/4" branch. Picked up a new j-bend, rubber hose (2' but only ended up using about 1') and a hacksaw. I was a little nervous at first cutting into the drain pipe but it ended up working out. Got the faucet and all the piping installed including the AC drain line.

Thanks everyone for your help!
