Need help replacing shower cartridge

I have a Price Pfister pullout single-handle shower, and water leaks from the handle when the shower is on. I figure the cartridge is where the leak is, so I'm trying to replace it, but can't figure out how I'm supposed to remove the old one. Instructions on a Danco complete shower handle and trim kit just say to pull the cartridge out, but I don't see how that's possible here:

How do I get this thing out of there?

I finally wrestled the chrome ring off, got the cartridge out no problem, and replaced it. This solved the problem with the leaky handle, but now with everything reassembled, the faucet has a pretty steady drip of hot water when it is turned off. Do I need to try to get the cartridge further in there, or does it seem like some other problem? When I turn the hot water off at the water heater the drip stops completely, which seems odd to me...

The replacement cartridge I got must not have been the right one, because using the new stem in the old cartridge solved the problem completely.

i have the same problem...how did you get it out?

I am going nuts myself trying to do the same repair without calling a plumber. Did you manage to figure it out?

See the two flat spots on the ring holding the cartridge in(Approx at 11 & 5 o'clock)? This will allow you to put a pair of channel locks or a large adjustable wrench on it to remove the ring and pull out the cartridge. Take the cartridge to a plumbing supply, HD or Lowes may carry it as well, to match up your replacement. When installing the new cartridge, be sure to line it up correctly and do not over tighten the ring or it could cause it to leak worse than before.

Pardon my ignorance, but is the "ring" the round silver piece? I don't want to grab the wrong thing and break anything...Thanks so much.

Just my .02

Price Pfister trash it and get a new fixture. Those are so cheap.

Good luck
