need help with capping a copper pipe


chicken lady,,,I live in Nebraska too. I would NOT trust the insulation only unless you have a ground heat pit also. Does the waterer have a electric outlet under it?? Can you either heat tape the line OR use a regular elec element heater like MOST waters had under them anyway??turned to LOW should be enough. when the wind blows and its 20-30 below to start with is NO time for a geyser. You CAN dig down with a spade yourself if you want and put a drain back curb stop in that line, then you dont have to do anything to it!!BEST if done in late summer when rains arent likely. Backhoes tear out more things than they fix,,,in MY experience!!
