Need help and advice for shower facet installation

Hey everyone

I am putting the last wall in for my shower. I cut a hole for the shower faucet. The instructions for this delta faucet are not very clear. So I am asking you if you this needs to be brought out further from behaind the shower wall or is it good. Right now the collet has to be tightened before the wall goes in and this seems to me to be to far back.

Thanks

I hate to say this, but didn't that come with a plastic ring? That hole is kind of small----

Find the ring ,measure the depth---typically the pipe is 2 to 2!/2 back fron the face of the tile---measured to the front of the pipe.

Delta has a square mud ring. Your hole should be quite a lot larger than that, which leads me to believe that the mud ring was discarded at some point, thus leaving no guideline for depth of valve.

An easy way to check would be to try and put your trim kit on.

If it doesn't fit :

Call delta and see if you can get an extension kit, otherwise you are opening the back side of the valve and adjusting it there.

You need to put the plastic back on the valve and mount it against your tub wall. You will then be properly mounted at correct depth.

The front face of the black ring should be out as far as the face of the new surround---

I think you might need to enlarge the opening a bit---but test and see---

The black mud ring should touch the back of the fiberglass unit. looks like you might be about 1" too deep (maybe more?)

I agree, it needs to come out about an inch for two reasons:

1) The handle will be scraping against the trim kit or at the least, make it more difficult to operate.

2) But more importantly, as you stated in your post, you can not get the ring off with the wall in place and if/when you need to change out the cartridge, you do not want to have to remove the wall.

And yes the hole could be larger, but you can get by with just squaring it off in the upper right and lower left corner so that you can fasten the two escutcheon screws to the valve body. We usually just use a 4 inch hole saw when we are installing ours.

Two more things:
Looking at the top picture in post#5 I can not see that the tub spout outlet has been blocked off? It may be just that the pic is blurry.

Also, assuming that the hot is coming in from the left, it looks like you have your cartridge in 180 degrees off/upside down. You'll know as soon as you turn on the water if the temp is not hot when fully counter-clockwise.
